I know the term “branding” can easily sound like an elusive business buzz word, carrying actually little weight in your own personal business goals.

But what if I told you that it was the key to the ongoing success of your business? Because what branding ultimately defines is the experience you want potential clients and visitors to have when they interact with your business. Branding is the impression you leave on them and the signature mark they will remember you by. It is your logo, the message you communicate, the fonts you select, the colors you choose to use and the way they all seamless work together to create an engaging, memorable and unique experience for your visitors.

LOGO

Your logo is your brand’s primary identifier. It is the most recognizable element of your brand. The logo should be able to stand alone and communicate exactly who you are and what you offer.

COLORS

Brand colors are a group of 2-4 colors that, together, create an overall vibe. They should be complimentary and appear in various other brand elements, like images, patterns, backgrounds, etc.

DESIGN ELEMENTS

Design elements might include patterns, icons or shapes that are used continuously throughout your branding. They can bring your branding to life and make it more unique. All additional brand elements should include any colors or aesthetics already established for the brand.

AESTHETIC

Your brand “aesthetic” is the overall vibe or feeling of your brand as a whole. Is your brand feminine? Dark and moody? Playful? Minimal and modern? The overall aesthetic will direct the colors, fonts and other brand elements that make up your business’s branding.

FONTS

A well-branded business uses a set of 2, maybe 3, complimentary fonts. This selection of branded fonts should be the ONLY fonts used on anything associated with your business.

Design Collateral

Collateral is a fancy term for anything your business is putting out. This might include a business card design, an email newsletter or social media graphics.
