In a few days, Levi & I will be beginning our year-long journey around the world. We have been preparing for months now, making sure we’ve thought through every little detail, including how to pack.
How in the world do you pack for long-term travel like that? Trust me, I’ve thought long and hard about it.
Here are some important things to think about…
COLOR
Packing clothes within a similar color palette is more important than you would think. We are planning on documenting our entire trip through photos, videos & blog posts, and it’s important for us to stay branded across all the content we are creating. I also want to be able to wear the pieces I’m packing with virtually any other piece I’m bringing. When everything is in the same color palette, it makes it easy to create more outfits with fewer items.

SEASON
The next thing you need to think about is the weather and seasons you’ll be traveling in. Levi and I will be moving east and plan to be in most of the countries were visiting during their warmer seasons. This eliminates the need for warmer, bulkier items like heavy coats and boots. If you are planning on visiting colder countries, choose outerwear that is versatile and can be worn with almost all the pieces your packing.

ITEM TYPE
Start by making a list of all the items you would normally reach for in your closet. Are you a denim person? Do you wear mostly dresses? Just because your traveling, doesn’t mean your clothing preferences will change. Pack more of what you would normally grab from your closet at home. I like wearing dresses. They are comfortable and easy to throw on as a complete outfit. So I’m planning on taking more dresses than pants.

I do want to note that I am taking a few of some of the items listed above (like slip dresses & graphic tees). They are items I wear the most regularly and can easily swap out for a whole new outfit. I’m also taking a few basic sweatshirts and cardigans to layer with.
Once you have all your items, make a list of the outfits you can create. You can also take pictures of yourself in each outfit for a quick reference guide.
